MARY CATHERINE SOLBERG

ABOUT THE ARTIST

Mary Catherine Solberg is a contemporary figurative painter based in Minneapolis, MN, known for her powerful fusion of classical techniques with modern themes. Her work draws inspiration from Renaissance masters and religious iconography, combining their timeless beauty with contemporary narratives. This blend creates a unique interplay between the sacred and the profane, where vivid imagery, pop culture, and personal memories coexist.

Solberg’s recent post-pandemic works push the boundaries of mixed media, building on these  layers of memory, nostalgia, and the constant flood of pop culture and conflicting news. Her innovative use of materials and techniques creates textural depth, evoking both the weathered beauty of history and the vibrant chaos of contemporary life.

Her career includes numerous juried shows and solo exhibitions, with prestigious venues such as the MN Marine Art Museum, Le Meridien Chambers Hotel, and Hopkins Center for the Arts showcasing her work. Solberg’s paintings are featured in private collections worldwide and in permanent institutional collections like the Hennepin County Medical Center and MN Marine Art Museum.

Solberg is represented by galleries including The District Edina 9 Mile Gallery, Keep Contemporary in Santa Fe, and Saatchi Art Online. A graduate of Viterbo University (BFA, summa cum laude), she continues to create at The Casket Arts Building #109, located in the Northeast Minneapolis Arts District.
